MY CRY BABY - Part 7

Part Seven

The first few months of my married life always filled with warmth whenever I think back. The transition of knowing your wife, liking her and eventually loving her makes me relive those days every moment of my life.

As my professional commitments grew, my wife sort of managed everything and suddenly I became so dependent on her for daily little things. It kind of felt good and made me love her more and more each and every passing day.

Then came the day which I still curse when I look back. As I opened my office id, I was graced with more of my sister’s emails than office emails. I rarely reply to the usual how are you and other similar messages nowadays. I answered only when she asked something important or when I had to say something. I started to go through the recent one which said-
You don’t talk to me
You are not even online
You don’t share anything these days
And I don’t even know if you are reading my emails
You have changed a lot :’(

I was really enraged and immediately replied
Don’t bluff ok
What do you want me to share?
I shared all my crushes, the moment I joined college and passed out of it, my first job, first salary and literally everything..
What more do you want me to share?
Tell me?!
I would share if anything significant happens and you know it.
I don’t insist on coming online due to our time difference but you won't understand and continue your nagging.
We both are adults now, for God's sake, grow up.
You are even a mom of 2 kids, behave like one.

I pressed send and then realized, what have I done?
As usual, that day was crap and it went worse when she cut my call.  I thought what if she doesn’t accept my apology. Suddenly I had an idea to call her husband. I was relieved when he picked up the phone. His voice told me that I called at the wrong time for which I was sorry. I explained and admitted everything to Jiju.

Jiju: How many times will you say sorry. It's okay yaar.

Me: Let me talk to her. She even cut my call, she never does that.

Jiju: Hey no, she just slept a few min ago and that ringtone disturbed her so I instantly cut it. Not her.

Me: She was awake this late? Like 3 am?

Jiju: She was upset, you know how she is. You at the office?

I cursed myself, she probably cried. I forgot how sensitive she can be.

Me: Just got over

Jiju: I will take care. Don’t worry.

My colleagues called me if I wanted a ride home and I had cut the call reluctantly after Jiju’s reassurances.

I apologized later and she did say it was okay and insisted that I forget about it.

Our video calls and overall calls for that matter, reduced considerably to once a month affair. She did share a lot of pictures but she was the one who took them, so she was not even in one of them. My behavior which hurt her would kill me one day for sure. The only solace was my wife.

Days passed and I moved on from that incident. My wife and I moved to a country side independent home and it took much of our time and energy to get settled. At last every second was worth it.

One day my wife announced that we were pregnant. Her admission was cute and it still runs in front of eyes. I was so elated that, that day was undoubtedly the best days of my life. I molded my work hours to cater her needs due to her terrible morning sickness. People easily recognized the good news as my face had a permanent smile etched on my face.

My wife and I chose her birthday to reveal the good news to our families back in India. Their reaction was out of the world. It was instantly planned that my In-laws would be coming as soon as possible and a few months later nearly during our due date, my parents too.

It was now the time to call my sister. I felt my wife was the appropriate person to do the honors as she was very excited. They were going on and on and on and I was like what the hell are they talking about so much?!

I was hurt when my wife cut the call and came to hug me. When I didn’t reciprocate, she looked at me with questioning eyes, for which I had no answer. The silence was broken by the ringing of the mobile.

BFF SuNsHiNe calling

I told my wife it was nothing and kissed her forehead. She went off to do her chores and I went to the balcony, cut the call and called the same number.

My sister[MS]: you won't change that dirty habit of yours, huh

Me: I am sorry

MS: for what?

Me: I was rude

MS: when?

Me: I shouldn’t have sent that email

MS: I am done through that yaar. Come out of it

Me: Then why didn’t you text for so many days?

MS: I call your wife, we are ganging up on you

Me: Really!!

I was surprised

MS: If not you, then her, she giggled
you know me

Me: Ya, you are awful, do you know what she stored your name as?

MS: Kya?

Me: BFF Sunshine

MS: Aww..really..thats so sweet of her, dekhke sikho kuch, waise I stored her name as Babylicious

Me: What is that?! My wife is not to be named after something to eat. Tum bhi na

MS: Yours is Cutiepie

Me: Come on yaar, I am not cutiepie

MS: For me you are, waise who sab chodo, hearty congratulations, buddy, I am going to be a bua and I am loving it already.

Me: Haan haan

MS: You excited?!!

Me: I am nervous yaar. I can't even describe that feeling

MS: Hota hai yaar and don’t worry, you would make everything right

Me: Don’t say that. Last time I messed up

MS: Phir se wahi baat, move on baba, and I will still say that you would make everything right

Me: Don’t start that again

MS: Jao phir nahi bolti mein

She cut the call. My Fierce Nagging baby was back.
I kept calling her and at last, she picked it up God knows when..

MS: What now?

Me: Nothing, just wanted to hear you curse me

MS: Go to hell, hamesha bakwaas hi karte ho tum

I started laughing but I couldn’t hear anything on the other side

Me: Hello, you there?

MS: Yyaar don’t go to hell, abhi toh baby bhi aane wala hai

Me: Seriously, you are something else
I burst into another round of laughter

MS: chup kar yaar, you have to look after them

Me: Ya I will

MS: Waise I like that you both wanted to keep the gender of the baby as a surprise

Then we talked about everything that came to our mind. She teased me for doing all the household chores and cooking. She also gave suggestions to fulfill my wife’s carvings, to take her to evening walks and importance of her postures and all. It was indeed valuable.

Well, what do I say, those months of our pregnancy were the most demanding, physically exhausting and emotionally draining days of my life. Now that I look back, those were the only memories I cherish of us.

THAT'S HOW IT STARTED - Part 7

Part 7

Maan introduced himself to Geet.

They were about to shake their hands instead they gave each other a hi-fi and this time their hands collided...

They smiled at each other.

Maan: Bangalore?

Geet: Ya

Maan: I thought so...I am from Hyderabad...so...people can meet even this way...

Geet: Little embarrassing but its okay...

Maan: Anyhow this time don't fall for a doctor..look for a good engineer or businessman

Geet: You too, look for a good girl, not some stupid Simran.

Geet was called by her friends...

Geet: I have to go...all the best...

Maan: You too

Geet: Bye

Maan: Bye

Again they had a hi-fi and got departed to their own destinations

-----------------------------

Kidnapper: Tu shaadi mein gaya hi kyon tha re? huh?
tujhe toh yahi laga hoga na ki tujhe dekhke who icecream ki tarah pigal jaegi?
Flaskback yaad aake, tere liye bhaagthi hui aayegi??
Issiliye gaya tha na?
[Why did you go to the marriage? huh?
You thought she would melt like ice cream after seeing you?
She would run to you after getting your flashback?
That's why you went right?]

Maan: I didn't go for that reason

Kidnapper: Toh phir kanyadaan karne gaya tha kya?
[then you went to give away the bride?]

Maan gave an angry glare to the kidnapper

Maan: I didn't know what to do at that moment, I was very sad.

Kidnapper: Sad? Kaha ka sad re?
Ek gayi toh kya hua? Dusri toh mili na...
Chal abhi aage ki story bata...
[What sad huh?
One went, okay so what, you got another one
Now tell me what happened next?]

Maan: When I went back to Hyderabad I got the worst shock of my life...
I went to the hospital to have my check-up

-------------------------------

Nurse: Sir the doctor is calling you

Maan: Me?

Nurse: Yes sir

With that Maan went to the doctor's cabin

Doctor: please come and take your seat Maan

Maan: Please tell me about my reports doctor?

Doctor: Jiska darr tha wahi hua Maan
[It was what we feared]

Maan: Really?

Doctor nodes his head...

Worriedly he gets up from his seat and starts walking randomly...

Maan: If you could check the reports again?

Doctor: I already checked it thrice...

Maan had a teary face now...

Maan: How much time is left, doctor?

Doctor: Maximum 3 months

THAT'S HOW IT STARTED - Part 6

Part 6

After roaming all the city with all the singing and dancing Maan and Geet land up in a truck which takes them to the place near by that wedding hall. They fall asleep within no time

Yash: kya yaar I searched the whole parking lot...but I am still unable to find him...

Phone:...

Yash: I am tired of searching him...I m deprived of sleep man...I'll leave him and come to the room.

Phone:...

Yash: One min and cuts the call

And he sees both Maan and Geet in that truck...he was astonished. He lifts Maan and puts him in the car with utmost difficulty.

Yash again calls the same person.

Yash: Ya I found him, wait, I will bring him

Meanwhile, Geet's parents also find Geet with the help of Yash and take her to the guest house.

Next day,

Geet gets up with a hangover, she sees herself in a mirror and vaguely remembers all that happened the previous night, irritated with herself she pulls a blanket on herself and shouts loudly.

Her cousin sister: Hey sis get up soon

Geet: No I won't

Cousin sister: Do you know? Anand and Simran had a big fight last night and they are thinking of divorce...

Geet: What?? Really?

Geet was too happy to hear that

Cousin sister: No yaar, I told this to simply wake you up.

Geet: What the hell? I will kill you, you stupid..!!

She hits her hard with the pillow...

Cousin sister: Come on yaar..whatever happened has happened, come let's go and eat something. I think you didn't eat last night too. Now go and freshen up.

She forces Geet to washroom

Geet: But my head is spinning yaar

Cousin sister: you will feel better after eating, now go.

All the guests head towards the garden to have their breakfast...

Geet: This pain is killing me yaar

Cousin sister: Kuch nahi hota, pehle tu kuch kha le.

[That happens, you eat first]

They settle themselves and eat...Geet's gaze settles upon Simran who was feeding Anand lovingly, she instantly fumes and turns the other side.

Maan (from the garden): kaha ho yaar tum log?
[Where are you, people?]

Romeo: We are coming, just wait.

With that he cuts the call, he was dragged by some relative of Simran

Simran's relative: Sir please sit and have your breakfast

Maan: At least let me take the breakfast first

Simran's relative: Oh..!! I will bring you toast and omelet.

With this Maan was made to sit beside Geet as no other table was empty...

Geet saw Simran feeding Anand a laddoo and took the same in her hand and crushed it, her anger grew no bounds. She simply stuffed the crushed laddoo on Maan's face, she was embarrassed with what she has done after realizing...

Maan sat like a statue unknown to what was happening, he realized it was the same girl with whom he drunk last night. she was ashamed of the whole thing and tried to give him a small smile and said sorry.

He too gave his signature smile and said its okay as he knew what was going on with her and left the place to meet his friends.

After the breakfast and congratulating the newly weds for the last time everyone went to the bus stand to go to their respective places...

Geet spotted Maan. After he was left alone by his friends to get the refreshments she went to him. Maan was surprised

Hi I am Geet

MY CRY BABY - Part 6

Part six

The D-Day finally came.

I eagerly waited for the Jaimala ceremony where I could get the first glimpse of my bride. The world stopped. She looked like an angel made only for me. Words fall short. That feeling of happiness, contentment, and possessiveness at the same time is difficult to describe. I felt honored to share my life with her.

The garlands exchange was playful. I couldn’t take my eyes off her. She trembled when I accidentally touched her. I just wanted to hold her and carry her away from all the prying eyes of the world.

The priest was proceeding with the rituals, on the other hand, I was busy glancing my wife when suddenly a tiny pair of hands encircled my back, rocking me. For a second I was completely taken aback and angry for breaking my gaze. I almost scolded that kid but was pleasantly surprised to see the exact miniature version of my sister and kind of relieved that she finally made it on my big day.

I hugged my niece tightly and gave a loud kiss which she rubbed off vigorously. I laughed and enquired about her mother. She told she was feeding her brother somewhere. I scolded her for running off and making her mother worry but she told she was eager to meet me. My insides literally melted. I kissed her forehead again and settled her comfortably in my lap. And kanyadaan ritual began making my wife shed a few tears. Before I could do anything, my niece wiped her tears and told her not to cry else her makeup would get ruined.

Everyone including the priest had a laugh.

She ran off my lap as soon as I had to stand up for my phere.

The meaning of the 7 phere was recited.

In the first round or phera, prayers to God for plenty of nourishing and pure food.

In the second round, prayers to God for a healthy and prosperous life.
In the third Phera prayers to God for wealth.
In the fourth round prayers to God for the increase in love and respect for each other and their respective families.
The fifth phera is taken to pray for the welfare of all living entities in the entire universe and for begetting noble children.
In the sixth round around the fire, prayers to God for the peaceful long life with each other.
In the final seventh round prayers to God for companionship, togetherness, loyalty, and understanding between themselves.

After my phere, I finally saw my sister. She had a bundle of joy in her lap and had a big smile on her face. She pointed my wife and me and gave a thumbs-up sign making me smile wider. I didn’t find Jiju though. I nudged my wife and pointed in her direction. They both acknowledged each other.

As I turned and had a proper look at my wife, the view cast a spell on me. I was mesmerized, her nose got slightly covered with the sindoor as I was putting on her forehead. My touch on her slender neck as I tied the mangal sutra left us both trembling. Her smile grew bigger and a sense of contentment filled me. For long I couldn’t take my eyes off her.

God, I was married and it felt great.

Finally, I had the chance to properly introduce my sister and family. My niece gave a gift to my wife. Immediately I asked her mera gift kaha hai? She told me I came na mama.

My sister laughed and handed me my nephew and exchanged hugs with my wife, mother and even father while I was completely left alone. My insides told me bahut na-insaafhi hai bhai. Only my nephew was with me, he was a delight. Much later, we all proceeded to have dinner.

At last, I saw my sister in front of me.

Me: Who are you?

She laughed, I can see through your anger cutie

Me: Don’t call me cute

My sister: Of course you are cute

My niece laughed and I glared at her.

My sister[hinting at the baby]: He is sleeping peacefully in your arms. Generally, he doesn’t.

Me: We are friends unlike others

My sister: Hey [she was cut off by a call] here, talk to your Jjiju

He congratulated me and welcomed into the club. I couldn’t even laugh properly with a sleeping kid in my hands. He apologized for not coming. I let it go and gave the call to my wife. Their conversation ended swiftly.

My sister: it's time to leave now

Me: Really? I didn’t even talk to you properly. When will we meet again?

My sister: In my daughter’s marriage

Me: What?

My sister: We tend to meet only during marriages

My niece and I were annoyed at her but she continued laughing.

Me: Stop kidding yaar

My sister: Ok ok. But we will always in touch

Me: Ya but still

My sister: Listen, your wife needs your support. Especially in US. Be patient, ok. By the way, she is a great girl.

Me: Ya, I know. But what about me?

My sister: You would make everything right yaar. Afterall you are my bro.

I rolled my eyes but she giggled.

My father interrupted that car was ready to take them to the airport and we bid our goodbye.

THAT'S HOW IT STARTED - Part 5

Part 5

In order to distract him...she starts an imaginary scooter

Geet: Hey baito na, hum ghumne chalthe hai...
[hey, sit, let us roam somewhere]

Maan: Hmmm...theek hai
[okay]

Inside the wedding hall

Mohinder was talking to one of his relatives when Rano came and asked him

Rano: Aapne geet ko dekha kya?
[Did you see Geet somewhere?]

Mohinder: Maine kaha tha uska mood bahut kharab hai, uska haath math chodna, ab dekho kya ho gaya, jao ab, dhundo use..

[I told you her mood is off,
don't leave her hand
now see what happened,
go now, search her]

Rano: Galti meri nahi, aapki hai.
aap hi ne uss Anand ko damaad banana chaha na, aur ab dekho use geet nahi chahiye, hamare saare paise barbaad ho gaye (it was geet's parents who paid for the education of Anand)
ab ladki ko nahi dusra damaad dhundna padega.

[It is not my mistake, it's yours.
You wanted Anand as your son-in-law, now he doesn't want our Geet, we lost all our money (it was Geet's parents who paid for the education of Anand)
Now we need to search for another son-in-law]

Mohinder got very angry by this

Mohinder: tum toh insaan kehlane ke layak hi nahi ho...Fuming

[You really cannot be called a human]

Rano: Haan haan agar insaan hoti toh aapse kyon shaadi karti??

[I wouldn't have married you if I were a human]

Relatives started laughing by hearing their argument...

Mohinder: tum toh bas ab chup hi ho jao, pointing a finger towards her..

[Just be silent now]

Rano: Mujh par ungli dikhane se kuch nahi hoga...duniya wala jo hum par ungliya dikharahe hai uska kuch karo...

[There is no use pointing a finger at me, do something of the fingers world is pointing us]

The imaginary scooter of Maan and Geet reached wedding hall...

Geet: Stop stop

Unsteadily holding each other they make their way to the two seats at the farthest corner from where Siman and Anand were clearly visible.

Geet: Yaha kya ho raha hai
[what is happening here?]

Maan: Maatham
[sad event]

Geet: He he he

He says something in his ear and she starts to laugh like hell.

They tried to clap their hands but they never collided instead they fall over each other.
They sit properly.

Maan and Geet see the bride and groom in conversation with some aunty. They try to imitate Anand and Simran respectively.

Maan: Haan aunty ji mein hi woh ullu ka pattha hoon
[Yes aunty, I am that stupid]

Geet: Nahi kisi ne gadha kaha tha, batao Anand, sharmao math
[No, some one said donkey Anand dear, tell her, don't be shy]

Maan: Haan who toh sahi hai...ye actually kisi aur ki lover hai aunty...patient ke saath aayi thi...par kutte ki tarah peche padd ke maine isse pata liya...mujh se bada gadha koi hoga kya auntyji? bataye?

[That also is true, she is someone else's lover aunty, came with a patient, but I was after her like a dog and wooed her, won't there be any other donkey like me aunty? huh?]

Geet: Uss lover ko toh maine footbaal ki tarah maar diya...match interesting hai na aunty...waise mujhe toh koi sharam nahi hai...aur luckily isse bhi...

[I played football with that lover, interesting match aunty, I was really shameless, I am lucky Anand is shameless too]

Both Maan and Geet together (imitating aunty here): waah mere bacchon...BP aur Diabetes ki tarah sarva naash ho jao...

[Wow my kids, May you both be destroyed like BP and Diabetes ]

They both see each other and laugh like hell...

Getting bored they come out of that wedding hall...

Geet: Mujhe ride pe jana hai
[I want to go on a ride]

Maan: Kaun si car me?
[In which car?]

She sees all the cars parked in the parking and gets transfixed at a cute yellow car.

Geet: Yellow wali..
[that yellow one]

Maan: He he..chalo..
[let's go]
